Judge Reverses Order, Restores Parental Rights for Unvaccinated Mother

Earlier this month, Cook County Judge James Shapiro made headlines by issuing a ruling in which an Illinois mother was denied visitation, also known in Illinois as parenting time, with her 11-year-old son because she had not been vaccinated against the coronavirus. On August 30, he reversed that order, allowing the mother to once again see her son. But the debate ignited by the case, and questions of how or if vaccination status should play a role in parental rights, are likely to continue for some time.
